How to Make Delicious Beef Biryani

Beef Biryani is a flavorful and aromatic dish that combines tender beef, fragrant basmati rice, and a blend of spices. Perfect for special occasions or weekend feasts, this recipe will guide you to make the perfect beef biryani at home.

Ingredients Required

  • 500g beef, cut into medium-sized pieces
  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 3 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 3-4 green chilies, slit
  • 1/2 cup fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • 1/2 cup mint leaves
  • Whole spices: 4 cloves, 3 cardamoms, 1 cinnamon stick, 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 2 tsp biryani masala powder
  • Salt, as needed
  • 4 tbsp oil or ghee
  • Water, as required

Preparation Steps

  1. Wash and soak the basmati rice for 30 minutes.
  2. Clean and marinate the beef with yogurt, turmeric, chili powder, biryani masala, and salt. Set aside for 1 hour.
  3. Heat oil in a large pan, fry sliced onions until golden brown, and set aside half for garnishing.
  4. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for 2 minutes.
  5. Add chopped tomatoes, green chilies, mint, and coriander leaves. Cook until tomatoes soften.
  6. Add marinated beef and cook until the meat is tender, adding water if necessary.

Cooking Process

  1. In a separate pot, boil water with salt and whole spices. Add soaked rice and cook until 70% done. Drain the rice.
  2. Layer the partially cooked rice over the beef masala.
  3. Top with fried onions, mint, and coriander leaves.
  4. Cover tightly and cook on low heat (dum) for 20–25 minutes.

Serving Suggestions

Serve hot beef biryani with raita (yogurt sauce), pickle, and papad for a complete meal. A cold glass of buttermilk or a sweet dessert like gulab jamun makes it even more special.

Tips for Perfect Biryani

  • Use aged basmati rice for the best flavor and texture.
  • Marinate the beef for at least 1 hour for tender and flavorful meat.
  • Cook on low heat during the dum process to allow the flavors to blend.
  • Do not overcook the rice before layering; keep it slightly undercooked.
